Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition invites civil society organisations to propose candidates to participate in the Working Group that will prepare the Draft of the new Nature Protection Act.
The current Nature Protection Act has been in force for more than 12 years, and in the meantime key strategic documents have been adopted: the Global Biodiversity Framework (Kunming–Montreal) and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. These documents highlight shortcomings in previous approaches to environmental protection and encourage active restoration of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. The aim of adopting a new act is to align national legislation with the aforementioned European framework, to improve provisions that have proven ineffective in practice, and to ensure more effective management and conservation of nature in the Republic of Croatia.
Among the key changes envisaged is the designation of new strictly protected areas in order for Croatia to meet the European Union target of 10% of protected terrestrial and marine areas, as well as the introduction of rules for nature restoration in line with EU regulations. The Working Group will enable different voices from civil society to contribute to shaping the Act and to ensure that it is prepared on the basis of practical experience.
All interested associations may submit their candidate proposals by 15 January 2026, and the procedure and application instructions are available at the link.
