As part of its activities aimed at strengthening civil society, a delegation of the National Foundation for the Development of Civil Society visited the Mayor of Rijeka, Ms. Iva Rinčić. The visit focused on reviewing the cooperation achieved so far and proposals for its further continuation, with special emphasis on support programmes for the development of civil society and strengthening partnerships between local government and civil society organisations.
At the meeting, attended by representatives of the National Foundation – Director Cvjetana Plavša-Matić, Deputy Director for Development Programmes Marija Boltek, Deputy Director for European Funds and Systemic Support Luka Bogdan, as well as members of the Governing Board: Prof. Dražen Vikić-Topić, Martina Štefković, Prof. Vesna Vašiček, Karlo Kolesar, Momir Karin, Sara Pleša, Prof. Ivana Bilić, Dr. Mate Damić and Krešimir Čanić – the importance of continuing joint initiatives supporting inclusive, socially responsible and sustainable development was emphasised.

The National Foundation expressed satisfaction with the achievements to date in Rijeka, particularly highlighting the important role of Rijeka as a city that actively supports the development of organised civil society. During the meeting, opportunities for future cooperation were discussed, especially in the areas of strengthening local philanthropic initiatives, supporting civic projects, and further involving Rijeka in national programmes that encourage active citizen participation and community development.
In addition to its institutional and programme-related aspects, this meeting had a special dimension as it was held on World NGO Day, which has been marked since 2014 within the framework of the Council of Europe. This date further emphasises the importance of the role of non-governmental organisations in social life, not only at the local but also at the global level.
