The Union for the Mediterranean joined the celebration of International Women's Day

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) joined the celebration of International Women's Day by organizing the webinar "DigiALL – Innovations and technologies for gender equality", which took place on March 7, 2023 in digital form and where concrete solutions and examples of good practice for ensuring equal conditions for women in terms of access to innovations and technologies were discussed.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) has launched the latest wave of industrial change through the merging of physical and digital technologies, but lack of funding and insufficient skills for enterIng the digital market are increasing barriers for women.

The organization "Women Who Tech" came to the conclusion through research conducted in 2020 that women make up only 28.8% of the workforce in IT, while according to the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in the MENA region, only one quarter of women entrepreneurs use digital technologies in their work.

At the webinar, representatives of European Commision, UNIDOEuro-Mediterranean-Arab Association, the Womenpreneur organization, as well as successful women entrepreneurs working in the field of digital platforms, artificial intelligence and technology discussed new ways of involving women in digital transformation, while the emphasis was on the future of work in the digital economy and the underrepresentation of women in key emerging technological sectors.

This event is also an announcement of the upcoming Women's Business Forum 2023 on the role of women in and innovation, which will take place on June 6 and 7, 2023 in Tunisia.
