Thanks to their potential as catalysts for social change, they are increasingly taking center stage in policy reform debates in a number of key areas, from education, research and culture to environmental protection, economic, social and other policies.
As an expression of organized philanthropy and civic awareness of responsibility towards the community, foundations are an indispensable factor in an active civil society.
The National Foundation for the Development of Civil Society is a public foundation established by the Republic of Croatia by a special law adopted by the Croatian Parliament on October 16, 2003
The National Foundation was registered in the Foundation Register on November 24, 2003, with a founding contribution of two million kuna and a continuous flow of funds from part of the income from games of chance and funds from the state budget, income from its own activities and participation in financial allocation programs. support from international sources and programs of the European Union.
With regard to the mentioned sources of income, the National Foundation is classified as a public mixed foundation (a combination of an operational foundation and a foundation that grants financial support).
The National Foundation for the Development of Civil Society was established with the primary purpose of promoting and developing civil society in the Republic of Croatia. In order to achieve its basic purpose, the Foundation provides professional and financial support to programs that promote the sustainability of the non-profit sector, cross-sector cooperation, civic initiatives, philanthropy, volunteering, which improve the democratic institutions of society, as well as to other programs that realize the basic purpose of the Foundation.
